A Rumored Fortune

"A Rumored Fortune" is a book that will have you enraptured from the very first page.  It is set in England in 1866 and follows a young woman named Tressa. Her father was a bit eccentric and had hidden his massive fortune somewhere on the grounds of their family home, Trevelyan Castle, without ever revealing to anyone else where he had hidden it. With her father's untimely death, and no idea where he may have hid the fortune Tressa is thrown into a life of heartbreak, fortune hunters, and skirting on the edge of poverty and scandal. Tressa will have to waid through the mysteries of the castle, that have been building for years, to find the answers and the fortune she seeks. In the end, the fortune she's after may not be that of money, but one of love.

This is only Joanna Politano's second book, and you would never be able to tell by her style of writing. She writes with such a beautiful, classic, gothic way that I haven't had the pleasure of reading in a long time. "A Rumored Fortune" definitely has a gothic romance feel that I absolutely love! From the handsome, brooding stranger riding on a dark steed across the wind and rain swept fields, the mysterious dark feel of the castle and grounds, and all the late night excursions, whispered conversations, and even mysterious deaths that arise, it definitely gives you that delicious gothic feel that makes you want to stay up late at night to see what happens next.

All of the characters in the book felt so well thought out and genuine. I definitely have a new book boyfriend after meeting Donegan. Just like Tressa brings life with paints and paintbrush, Donegan brings life with his words. He definitely knows how to woo a woman and I think I fell for him just a little bit.

The only bad thing I have to say about the book, has nothing to do with the writer or the book itself, but the cover art. I thought the cover art was quite ugly, and bland for a Christian historical book, because I know they are usually so beautiful.

I absolutely loved this book, and I'd even say that it is one of my top three new releases of 2018. I have also found a new favorite author, and I will be anticipating all her future releases! I can not praise this book enough, but I hope you go out and read this gem of a book, if not, you are definitely missing out.

*I received this book for free as part of the Baker Publishing Group Blogger Review Program, but my opinions are all my own.
