"This is for Beatrice....and this is for Bianca"
The year is 1903 and Lucy is a telegraph operator at the Associated Press in New York City. Her and her older brother, who works for the Water Authority, are hard workers just trying to stay above poverty with a 40 year old lawsuit from their own family members on their shoulders. Throughout the book we uncover an assassination attempt on the president, a loveable fortune hunter, and the scare of an insane asylum. Will Lucy and her brother endure? Will hate and revenge be their sole motivator? Can Lucy find her happily ever after?
The last Elizabeth Camden book that came out was a dissapointment for me, but "A Dangerous Legacy" really put her back as one of my top favorite historical romance writers. "A Dangerous Legacy" was filled with historical facts which always makes Camden's writings so interesting, because she likes focusing on little bits of history that may not get talked about too much. Their was also a good dose of mystery which made sure the book never had a dull moment.
The book was well paced. I didn't have times where I wanted to skip through some of the boring dialouge, because their wasn't any. I had many moments where I had planned on finishing my reading for the day, but I had to read just one more chapter to know what happened next.
The romance between Colin and Lucy was well thought out, and didn't seem rushed or lackluster. I have to also say that I loved the secondary characters in the book. I didn't know I could have such strong feelings for the carrier pigions, Beatrice and Bianca, but without one spoken line, I loved those two. Lucy's brother Nick was also very lovable and made me want to know what was in store for him. I have heard a rumor that he may be having his own book come out in 2018, so I am eagrly awaiting that release date.
All in all I have nothing bad to say about this book. I am back to being highly satisfied with Camden's writing and I look forward to her future releases.
*I received this book for free as part of the Bethany House Blogger Review Program, but my opinions are all my own.
